FAQ
To achieve high quality, sale ready images, it’s important that everyone on the day understands what’s required. A little preparation makes a big difference to how smoothly things run and ultimately, to the quality of the final result. The smoother the day runs, the more time we can spend capturing your cattle in their best light — producing professional imagery that strengthens your brand, builds buyer confidence, and adds real value to your marketing.
Ultimately, I want your images to truly represent your animals — and to meet the standard I proudly hold for my work.
My time — like yours — is valuable, and the aim is always the same:
To produce elite quality images that attract top quality buyers for your livestock.
Can you have my imagery & footage processed within the sale catalogue deadline?
Yes. Upon booking every effort is made to schedule my time and workload around all marketing deadlines. Your communication plays an integral part of this with any proofs or drafts needing a timely response. It’s not uncommon to leave photographs to the last minute, when under pressure from the catalogue printer or graphic designer for delivery. Try to take your images a little earlier, to take the pressure off, and allow for some time to ‘re-shoot’ if you’re not happy with the first results.
What can I expect on the day?

Early to mid morning and mid to late afternoon provides the best light and calmer cattle. By contrast, the middle of the day is when most cattle settle into the shade to chew their cud and rest, making them far less inclined to move or stand correctly for photos. If possible, have cattle drafted and ready to go before arrival so we can make the most of good conditions. Animal welfare comes first. If cattle become unsettled, we’ll pause and give them time to settle. The aim is always a calm, efficient, and positive experience for both humans and livestock — producing professional images that speak for themselves.
How will you communicate with me?

I’ll reach out as your photo day approaches, but please let me know beforehand: how many animals we are planning to photograph or film for the day, what our plan for the day is, pending cooperating animals and weather conditions, when your sale or marketing deadline is. Strong communication is continued once I am back in the office via email, phone or text.
What is the best location & lighting?

Please scout locations ahead of time taking into account sun direction (to be behind photographer) with clean backgrounds, level ground, and minimal clutter - no troughs, feeders, or sheds in the frame. When processing large mobs, portable panel yards at opposing ends of laneway (either permanent or hot wire) works well. We try to process cattle the same way they are used to being handled on farm - either on foot, horse back or bike/buggy.
Photographing in the yards is a last resort - natural open spaces always yield more professional and appealing imagery.

How should I have my livestock presented?
Please have all cattle washed and clean. Dirt, dust, or manure can’t always be fully edited out — clean cattle save editing time and ensure premium results. Ensure they are accustomed to being handled in the same way they will be on photo day. A short practice run through the laneway or picture pen beforehand helps them understand the process. If using halters, have them fitted, familiar and clean before the day.
Should I arrange extra help for photo day?
A successful photo day relies on teamwork. Please arrange adequate, capable help to move and settle cattle efficiently. Ideally, two helpers to assist in positioning animals and willingness to get the animals attention for the “shot”. Having the right help keeps everyone safe, calm, and productive — especially when working larger mobs.

Can I combine travel with others in my area?
Absolutely! Where possible, travel costs can be shared when multiple clients in the same area are booked around the same time. If CPB is already travelling to your region, travel is typically divided fairly across those bookings rather than charged in full to one client. Shared travel depends on location, timing and availability, and isn’t guaranteed, but any applicable travel costs will always be quoted upfront at the time of booking so there are no surprises.
